Portuguese Water Dogs and Dalmatians are wonderful and talented dogs. Both of the breeds have well known and not so well known characteristics. We'll link to various other sites and hope we provide insight for the current and potential co-owners of one of our champion dogs.

Dalmatians:

Health Alert: Xylitol, a sugar substitute used in chewing gum, candy, toothpaste, and other products, can kill a dog that eats it. The frequency of cases seems to be growing. Amimal poison specialists alterted veterinarians and pet owners recently that cases of accidental dog poisoning are pat to be more frequent as xylitol is added to more and more human products.

A dog that consumes as little as a few sticks of chewing gum sweetened with xylitol should be taken to a veterinarian immediately, asid an article in the Journal of American Veterinary Medical Association - Washington D.C. - Cox News Service.
