BREEDING PHILOSOPHY:

Aviator puts a priority on:
• Health: we are committed to all testing required by the national breed clubs as well as monitoring the health of our dogs throughout their lives. We will not sell a dog for breeding who has significant health defects.
• Temperament: we want to produce dogs that you can live with! We know that a successful placement requires a dog and a family who are compatible so they enjoy each other for the life of the dog.
• Conformation: our breeding program has produced champions and dogs that meet the highest standards for conformation in both breeds. This has been evidenced by many winners all over the United States.

INTERNATIONAL CONNECTIONS:

We are pleased to have done two Dalmatian litters this year, each with our own line-bred bitches being bred to imported dogs from Brazil and Holland. By introducing gene pools from outside the United States, we hope to open up pedigrees, getting away from the “fad” stud dogs. Our hope is to reduce health risks in Dalmatians and offer fellow breeders options to open up their pedigrees as well. The dogs from these litters have been outstanding in terms of health, temperament and conformation.

We currently have Portuguese Water Dogs in South Africa being trained to use scent detection for land for locating land mines. In 2005, Sixty Minutes highlighted Isabelle, an Aviator PWD as one of the best scent detectors for cancer. This program originated in Cambridge University in England and is also being used in the University of Georgia and the Pine Street Foundation in Marin County, California. These dogs have been trained to detect several different types of cancer in early stage. Several articles describe this amazing process in more detail.

Dickie is now in Germany and will produce his first stud dog litter due May 21, 2009.
